Karl Mocke
My name is Karl Mocké, and I hail from Strandfontein, Mitchell’s Plain. My family moved to Strandfontein, from Bonteheuwel, in 1979, when I was 9 years old.
I attended both the Strandfontein primary and secondary schools in the area, the latter from which I matriculated in 1987.
Due to various socio-economic conditions, I was unable to further my studies at a tertiary institution, and proceeded to accept an administration position in the corporate world, at Southern Life Association Ltd.
Through the years I had managed different positions (complimented by part time studies) in the private sector, from administration, on to computer programming and finally my last position held was that of business analyst. The companies I worked for included Southern Life Ass Ltd, Old Mutual plc, Momentum Life, First National Bank and Santam Insurance Ltd. While my career seemed on track, professionally, I experienced a wholly untransformed private sector, and became increasingly frustrated with the treatment meted out to black employees in my tenure in this industry.
In 2011 I made the decision to plough back into my community, by harnessing my technological/administration skills with my passion for community work, and got involved with various community projects, via community organisation (Strandfontein Social and Economic Development Forum) as well as political activity (African National Congress). I am currently employed as an Administrator / Office Manager in the ANC Parliamentary Constituency Office, Mitchell’s Plain.
